Sandra Calderon

Sandra Calderón-Huezo is a consultant, nonprofit governance leader, and equity-focused community strategist with extensive experience supporting organizations across Kalamazoo through collaborative planning, civic engagement, and systems-level leadership. She currently serves as a Consultant and Contract Support Staff with Calderon Creative Solutions, LLC, where she partners with nonprofit organizations on strategic planning, organizational development, and community-centered initiatives designed to strengthen long-term impact and sustainability.

Sandra brings significant board governance experience shaped by years of leadership across regional institutions advancing access, accountability, and inclusive decision-making. She currently serves as a Director on the City of Kalamazoo Civil Rights Board, where she helps evaluate discrimination complaints and contributes to policy recommendations that strengthen equity protections and community trust. Her work reflects a strong commitment to transparent processes and responsive public systems.

She also serves as Vice Chair of Disability Network Southwest Michigan, supporting accessibility initiatives and advancing inclusive practices across an eight-county service region. In addition, Sandra serves as President and Capital Campaign Co-Chair of El Concilio, where she helps guide strategy, strengthen partnerships, and expand opportunities for Latino residents throughout Kalamazoo County.

Sandra previously served as President and Director of the Kalamazoo Foundation for Excellence, where she helped shape community investment priorities related to housing stability, infrastructure, and youth opportunity. Her earlier leadership includes serving as Public Relations Director and Co-Founder of Despierta Kalamazoo, along with committee roles supporting the YWCA Board Recruitment Committee, the Southwest Michigan César Chávez Committee, and the Big Brothers Big Sisters Event Committee.

Across her professional and volunteer leadership, Sandra is recognized for building cross-sector partnerships and advancing initiatives that align governance, community voice, and strategic action. Her work continues to strengthen equitable systems and expand opportunities across the Kalamazoo community.
