Yafinceio 'Big B' Harris
Yafinceio Harris is a community leader, violence-prevention advocate, and mentor dedicated to advancing safer neighborhoods and expanding opportunity for youth and families across the region. As a newly elected member of the Campaign for Criminal Justice Transparency (CCJT) Board of Directors, he brings more than 16 years of hands-on community outreach experience shaped by relationship-centered engagement with individuals and families most impacted by violence and justice-system involvement. His leadership supports CCJT's commitment to transparency, accountability, and community-informed justice solutions.
Harris currently serves as the Change of Status (CoS) Manager with Urban Alliance. The Change of Status program serves individuals with incarceration history both inside the jail and throughout the community, building life skills, strengthening personal development, and connecting participants to supportive pathways on their reentry journey. The program operates in partnership with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's IGNITE initiative to provide structured preparation and ongoing community-based support.
In addition to his role at Urban Alliance, Harris is the co-founder of the Peace During War mentoring initiative, a community-based effort focused on violence prevention, conflict resolution, and strengthening support networks for youth and families most impacted by community harm. He also serves as a Community Violence Intervention (CVI) worker, providing direct outreach, mediation, and support to individuals at highest risk of violence.
Earlier in his career, Harris contributed to prevention-focused strategies as a Group Violence Intervention (GVI) worker through Interfaith Strategy for Advocacy and Action in the Community (ISAAC), collaborating with community partners, service providers, and public safety stakeholders to support coordinated violence reduction efforts. He also contributed to outreach and engagement efforts with Integrated Services of Kalamazoo, Barclay Hills Alternative Education Center, and Oakland House, strengthening cross-sector partnerships that expand access to services and opportunity.
Through his service on the CCJT Board, Harris brings valuable insight grounded in lived experience and frontline prevention work, helping strengthen connections between community voice and systems-level decision-making while advancing collaborative strategies that promote safer, more equitable outcomes across Kalamazoo County.
